Lopsided First Quarter Undoes Warriors
Visiting Perkiomen Valley capitalized on a dominant first quarter to down the host Warriors in a windy and cold PAC-10 tilt. The Vikings got off to a quick start as midfielder Shawn Coulter opened the scoring on an individual effort. The guests continued to hold the momentum throughout the opening period as turnovers, failed clears, and poor execution plagued the Warriors with the Vikings extending to a 6-0 lead.
It appeared as the momentum may be changing as an illegal stick penalty on Perk Valley negated their 7th goal and left the hosts with the ball on a four minute non-releaseable penalty. However, a turnover by Methacton lead to PV possession and while the Warriors were extending to try to force a turnover Shawn Coulter beat the double team and scored man-down to extend the lead to 7-0. Methacton was able to win the ensuing faceoff and executed a nice extra man opportunity as Sophomore Stanley Kolimago found the goal on a Kyle Kacala assist.
Methacton would cut the lead to 7-2 as the penalty expired and Ryan O'Toole beat the PV netminder on another assist from Kacala. Perk Valley would add two more and Stanley Kolimago scored again on an extra man opportunity to close out the half with the guests holding a 9-3 advantage.
The second half would see more even possession, however, the guests continued to outscore Methacton to close out a 12-5 PAC-10 victory.
Methacton returns to action in non-league play on Tuesday of next week as they travel to Quakertown.
