Lady Warriors headed to state playoffs
5.0 years ago | Craig Kaminski
Warriors Win: 26 - 17
The third time proved to be the charm for the Lady Warriors, who locked up a state playoff berth Saturday by taking the District 1-6A, 11th place game by a score of 26-17 over Pennsbury. Senior Abby Penjuke delivered 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Warriors (23-7), which moves on to play District 11 champion Northampton in the first round of the state playoffs Friday at a site and time to be determined. The Lady Warriors had a previous chances to clinch a PIAA playoff spot in the second round at (8) Downingtown East but fell 54-46 and again on Wednesday, but fell to (12) Plymouth Whitemarsh 35-30 in another offensively-challenged performance. Playing for a second game without starting Junior forward Sydney Hargrove, who suffered a neck injury last Saturday in a 61-55 elimination game victory over Central Bucks East, defense and rebounding were the keys for the PAC representatives, who also got 8 boards from Sydney Tornetta and 7 caroms from Caroline Pellicano.   It will be the fourth time the Lady Warriors have gone to the PIAA playoffs in program history, their first trip since 2014. Lady Warriors fall in District playbacks
5.0 years ago | Craig Kaminski
Warriors Lose: 30 - 35
The Lady Warriors (22-7) came up short in their bid to lock up a state playoff berth Wednesday night, doomed by a second-half collapse in District 1-6A, 9-11 playbacks. Playing without starting forward Junior Sydney Hargrove, who was out with a neck injury sustained in Methacton’s 61-55 win over CB East Saturday, the PAC representatives bolted out to a 23-15 halftime lead. But things came apart at the offensive end in the second half for the Warriors, who managed just 7 total second-half points and a mere one in the fourth quarter during a 20-7 Colonials’ run that locked up a state playoff bid for PW (21-5). Junior Sydney Tornetta (10 points, 6 steals), Freshman Nicole Timko (8 points, 2 treys) and Senior Abby Penjuke (5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) topped the stat sheets for the Lady Warriors, which will need a win at home over (15) Pennsbury Saturday to secure the 11th and final state playoff spot from the district. PW (35) – Flanagan 3 3-4 10, Leszczynski 0 0-0 0, Kesselman 0 0-0 0, Cooper 1 0-0 2, McTamney 3 1-2 7, Allen 2 3-6 7, Thomas 3 2-3 9. Totals 12 9-15 35. Lady Warriors fall to SpringFord in PAC title game
5.0 years ago | Craig Kaminski
Warriors Lose: 41 - 55
The Lady Warriors fell 55-41 to SpringFord in the PAC Championship game.    The ever-dependable Spring-Ford defense once again rose to the occasion, forcing 25 Lady Warriors turnovers to help fuel a 28-8 edge in fastbreak points. The Lady Warriors (20-5) trailed 23-21 at the half but went cold to start the second half.  They finally broke the scoring drought of 5 minutes, 45 seconds when Junior Sydney Tornetta (17 points) cashed a 15-foot jumper, but the deficit would grow to 38-26 by the end of the third quarter and the Lady Warriors would not get back within single digits down the stretch. I would like to offer my congratulations to the best team in the league, and that’s what they’ve been all year,” said Methacton coach Craig Kaminski, whose club is still looking for its first PAC championship despite six trips to the finals. “They outplayed us, and they were playing at another level at the start of the second half. “As always when you’re playing Spring-Ford, you have to take care of the ball and we didn’t do that with 25 turnovers. We also allowed 15 offensive rebounds, and that was a problem.”   The Lady Warriors now move on to the District 1 6A playoffs.  They are the 9 seed and will host 24 seed Unionville Saturday at 3:30pm at Methacton.
