MHS Sprit of Methacton Athletics/Activities Winners
Updated on 06/04/2025
Congratulations to our four Athletic Spirit of Methacton Award Winners! These awards honor individuals who go above and beyond—not for recognition, but because they care deeply about our school, our students, and our shared success.

What makes these awards so meaningful is that they reflect the voice of our entire high school community. Teachers, students, volunteers, coaches, and assistants were all considered—and ultimately voted on by the high schools students and faculty.

Whether in the classroom, on the field, behind the scenes, or in the hallways, each of these individuals has made a lasting impact on Methacton High School. They have inspired, supported, and uplifted others—and we thank them for making a difference.

These awards were presented during the all-new Spirit of Methacton Pep Rally. The event was originally planned to take place outdoors in front of the entire MHS student body, but due to weather, classrooms viewed it virtually instead. You can watch the full pep rally here.

The four athletics and activities award recipients were selected from the entire group of athletic coaches and club advisors. They are as follows:

Eric Ranieri
Eric Ranieri stepped into his first year as the head football coach with confidence, but his roots in Methacton athletics run deep, as he is also an alumnus of Methacton. He has made a lasting impact on students in the classroom and on the field, leading with integrity and purpose. Coach Ranieri is the kind of leader people respect—steady, committed, and always focused on what’s best for the kids. His athletes and students look up to him, not just for what he teaches, but for how he carries himself every day.

Chris Torpey
Chris Torpey is the kind of coach every team hopes for. He puts in endless hours and never hesitates to give his all for his athletes. His time, energy, and effort are always focused on helping the kids succeed. No matter what, the team always comes first for him. Over the years, Coach Torpey has led countless athletes to the PAC Championships, Districts, and even the State level. His impact goes beyond the track—he builds confidence, drives ambition, and helps his athletes see what they’re capable of. His results speak for themselves, but the respect his athletes have for him says even more.

Jim Hodgins
Jim Hodgins consistently demonstrates full dedication to every endeavor he undertakes. Over the past four years, his impact as a coach has been clear, reflected in both his enthusiasm and the measurable growth of our athletes. He brings a high level of energy, expertise, and commitment to the high school boys’ track program. His contributions have been invaluable, and the program is fortunate to benefit from his leadership.

Bruce Outland
Bruce Outland is a dedicated educator at Methacton who also serves as the advisor for the Academic Decathlon team. Under his leadership, the team has consistently advanced to regional and state-level competitions. This past year, the team placed 6th at the state competition, with several students earning individual medals for their outstanding performance. Mr. Outland’s mentorship has built a program known across the region and state for its academic excellence, competitive success, and the remarkable achievements of its students.
