Methacton Fall Sports Raise Over $14,500 for Cancer Awareness
Updated on 10/20/2025
Throughout the start of October, many of Methacton’s fall athletic teams dedicated games and events to raising funds and awareness for cancer research. Girls Volleyball, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, and Football each organized special initiatives to support meaningful causes and honor those affected by cancer.
The Methacton Field Hockey team hosted its 12th annual Play for the Cure game on Tuesday, September 30. The initiative was founded in honor of former Methacton Field Hockey goalie coach Casey Leap, a cancer survivor. Each year, the team plays in support of Casey and all others impacted by cancer. Following the game, the team donates the funds raised to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Prior to the season, the Warriors set a fundraising goal — and this year, they proudly surpassed it!
The Methacton Boys Soccer team honored Helene Pileggi during their Pink Out game on Wednesday, October 1. In support of cancer awareness, the team sold special pink shirts, with all proceeds benefiting Unite for HER. Players, coaches, and fans came together to show their support for Helene and the broader cause, creating a memorable night of community, compassion, and purpose both on and off the field.
The Methacton Girls Soccer team joined in the cause by hosting their Pink Out game on Monday, October 6, to raise awareness for breast cancer. All donations from the event were directed to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, helping fund vital research and support programs.
The Methacton Girls Volleyball team continued its proud tradition of hosting the annual Dig Pink match to support breast cancer awareness. This year’s event, held on Tuesday, October 7, drew an incredible turnout from fellow students, families, and community members. All proceeds benefited The Side-Out Foundation, an organization dedicated to metastatic breast cancer research. The team not only reached their fundraising goal but exceeded it by more than $1,000, marking one of their most successful years yet.
The Methacton Football program also contributed to the cause, hosting a bake sale on Thursday, October 3, to support the Win the Day Warriors Foundation. The football, cheer, and band families worked together to make the night a tremendous success. With more than 1,000 people in attendance, the event showcased the incredible spirit and unity of the Methacton community—all while supporting a meaningful mission.
Also, the Methacton Girls Basketball program was recently recognized with the Mid Penn Bank Shining Light Award from the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. For 18 years, the Lady Warriors have hosted their annual “Shoot for the Cure” game, during which the gym is transformed in pink—from the players to the parents in the stands—all in support of the Coalition’s mission. Over the years, the team has raised more than $20,000 for the cause. The program was honored for its longstanding commitment at the 2025 Annual Conference Pink Party Kick-Off Dinner on Tuesday, October 14, in Harrisburg. Keep an eye out for their 2025 Shoot for the Cure game!
In all, the Methacton Athletics fall teams raised over $14,590 in support of cancer awareness and research. These incredible efforts reflect not only the athletes’ dedication on the field, but also their compassion and commitment to making a difference beyond the game.
