Girls Track and Field pulls the upset win over Perk Valley

5.0 years ago @ 7:57AM

The Girls Track and Field team hosted undefeated Perkiomen Valley on Wednesday afternoon and put together their best performance of the season. Highlighted by a school record, several District 1 qualifying performances, a clutch ending to the meet and personal best performances across all of the events, the Lady Warriors beat PV by a score of 76-74.

Trailing by a score of 74-71 heading into the final event, the 4x400 relay, the quartet of Juliana Keenan, Camille Dunham, Tina Prince and Shannon O'Brien ran their fastest time of the season, cruising past the Vikings team to secure the final 5 points in the meet and seal the team victory. As exciting as the last event was, their heroics would not have been possible without some outstanding performances from several members of the team. Cam Rodriguez broke the school record in the Pole Vault, clearing 12' 0" to win the event. Nickie Annelli was also outstanding in the event, clearing 11' 0" and finishing 2nd. Freshman Devon Petrei was asked to do a ton and came through with a gutsy performance. Running both the 1600M an the 3200M, Petrei finished 2nd and 3rd in the respective events. Kate Evans led the sprint crew with a PR and District qualifying performance in the 100M (12.52 sec) and also her best time of the year in the 200M (25.99 sec) finishing 1st and 2nd in those events. Evans also anchored the 4x1 (Meredith O'Donnell, Coco Dunham, Riley Hydock) to a win. Juliana Keenan put together a fantastic meet, winning the 300M Hurdles as well as placing in both the 200M and 400M. The Dunham sisters, Camille and Coco, took 2nd and 3rd in the Long Jump and Triple Jump as well as their relay performances. Camille also placed 2nd to Evans in the 200M. Madi Eastmure placed in 2 events, winning the High Jump and placing 2nd in the 100M Hurdles (the PIAA State Champion from PV, Christina Warren was first), with a District qualifying time of 15.64 seconds. Senior Tina Prince couple her  4x400 relay performance with a 2nd place finish in the 800M. Sophomore Rory Stein garnered a very important 3rd place finish in the High Jump. Freshman Kristen Riddell did the same in the open 800M.

The Lady Warriors compete at the Upper Moreland Invitational on Friday before continuing their dual meet schedule at Norristown on Monday.
