Boys Lacrosse Names 2019 Captains
With the start of the 2019 spring season under a week away for the Warriors, the team picture is starting to take focus, including team leadership. Seniors Pay Sikora, Jack Pellegrino, and Matt Wall will lead the Warriors in their quest for a 2019 PAC and District 1 playoff bid.
All three players return as Varsity starters, each having received Varsity playing time since their freshman years. Coach Ryan notes "I'm really excited about this group of guys we have in leadership roles. Having a player at each area of the field [Attack, Mid, Defense] provides a solid base of experience and leadership in every facet of the game."
Both Sikora (Attack) and Pellegrino (Mid) are among the highest returning point leaders on the team. Coach Ryan : "Pay will really be a calming influence on our attack line. As the only returning starter there we will look to him to help fill some of our production lost with the graduation of [Kyle] Kacala."
Of Pellegrino Coach Ryan added "Jack is one of the best two way midfielders I've seen in my time here. His understanding of the game as well as his athleticism will be essential for us between the lines. "
The third captain, Goalie Matt Wall, returns for his second year as the Warriors starting netminder. "Matt is a leader at the deepest position in our program. We feel like we have a number of guys who could start at the Varsity level and that Matt has embraced that competition, and clinched that starting spot while leading his younger teammates and competing every day is a testament to who he is" stated Coach Ryan.
The trio will look to lead the Warriors to their first PAC and District 1 playoff berth in their time at Methacton. "I'm confident that we have the leadership and the talent behind it that will create a very different look for our team this year. I think the world of these three guys as both players and young men and I'm excited to see what they can do in their final year in the Green and White" said the coach.
The Warriors open their season on Tuesday March 26th as they head to Great Valley in a non-league matchup.
