Girls Spring Track and Field Meeting

For all of those that are interested in being a part of the Girls Spring Track and Field Team, there will be a meeting on Thursday, February 29 at 2:45 pm. The plan is to hold the meeting in the LGI. If you are unable to attend, but plan to be part of the team, please make sure all of your paperwork is complete on Big Teams. Practice begins on Monday.

Girls Track and Field excel at the Meet of Champions

The Girls Track and Field Team continued their amazing season with several outstanding performances at the Meet of Champions on Friday night at Lehigh University. The annual championship meet featured the best athletes from more than 90 schools throughout the Delaware Valley.

 

Highlighting the meet was senior Summer Mellow. Summer medaled in all 3 events, setting the school record in the 60m Dash. Her time of 7.76 seconds placed her 3rd in the meet and is the 9th fastest time in PA this season. Mellow then took to the Long Jump, where she placed second with a leap of 17' 9". In her 3rd event of the meet, she anchored the 4x200 relay to a 6th place finish. Nicole Walsh, Jillian McTamney and Kenslee O'Donnell handled the first three legs of the event. Kenslee O'Donnell took home her second medal of the night with a blistering time of 9.52 seconds in the 60m hurdles, placing 6th and qualifying her for the State Championship Meet. 

 

The Distance Medley relay of Kate Thomas, Jillian McTamney, Marlie Klein and Molly Thomas also took home medals. Improving by more than 20 seconds from their best time of the season, the quartet finished 5th in the event with a time of 13:01.40. Two athletes that tied or set personal PR's on the evening were Soleil Bond-Johnson, with a long jump leap of 16' 8.25" to place her 8th in the event, and Sydney Young, with a Pole Vault of 9' 0", placing her 14th.

 

The Lady Warriors will be well represented at the PA State Championships held at Penn State University on Sunday. Widely regarded as one of the few "True" State Championships of any sport, this meet will feature athletes from both public and private schools from throughout the state, all competing in the same division. Only the top 20 athletes from each event qualify for the meet. This will mark the 23rd consecutive season (excluding 2021, when a meet was not held due to COVID) that Methacton has been represented in the State Championship Meet by members of the Girls Track and Field Team. Below are the athletes that have qualified for the meet:

Kenslee O'Donnell - 60M Hurdles, 4x200 Relay

Methacton Girls Track and Field wrap up a record breaking season at the State Championships

The Girls Winter Track and Field Team competed at the PA State Championships held at Penn State University on Sunday afternoon. The meet features the best athletes from all 1500 public and private schools throughout the state, including many that will advance to the National Championship level.

Senior Summer Mellow, an athlete that has qualified for the National Championships in 2 weeks in 4 events, finished in 10th place in the 200m dash with a personal best and the #3 all-time performance in Methacton history with a time of 25.30 seconds. The two athletes ahead of Mellow on the Methacton list, Caroline Duffy and Ryann Krais, were also Division 1 scholarship athletes in track and field. Mellow anchored the 4x200 relay, which included Nicole WalshJillian McTamney and Kenslee O'Donnell, to their best performance of the season in a time of 1:45.90 and a 15th place finish. That performance was #4 on the All-Time Methacton list. Mellow also competed in the Long Jump and placed 19th in PA. Kenslee O'Donnell was off to a great start in the 60m hurdles and unfortunately clipped one that threw her off. Despite the mishap, O'Donnell was strong enough to finish the race in an outstanding time of 9.82 seconds and a 23rd place finish. O'Donnell holds the 6th fastest time in Methacton history in the event. The 4x800 Relay of Marlie KleinJulianna TrigoneMolly Thomas and Kate Thomas ran their 2nd fast time of the season, 9:54.80, to a 17th place finish in the meet. The quartet holds the 4th fastest time in the sport at Methacton.

The 4x200 Relay, 4x800 Relay, Summer Mellow and Marlie Klein have all qualified for the National Championship Meet to be held in 2 weeks. The Lady Warriors had an outstanding season, which included school record performances in the 55m dash, 60m dash, 3000m run and 3200m run, as well as numerous All-time Top Ten performances. Their focus now turns towards the spring season.

Lady Warriors Track and Field lights up Lehigh and NY with an incredible weekend!

The Girls Track and Field Team had a busy, but incredibly productive weekend. 

 

On Friday night, they traveled to Lehigh University for a meet with over 80 schools from the Delaware Valley. They placed in the top 10 in 6 different events, The 4x400 Relay of Nicole Walsh, Marlie Klein, Kate Thomas and Kenslee O'Donnell won the event, qualifying for the Meet of Champions. Also qualifying was Molly Thomas in the mile, who placed 5th in the event with a time of 5:34.96.

 

On Sunday, the Lady Warriors traveled to the Ocean Breeze Sports Complex in Staten Island. With over 200 teams in attendance, they finished the day with 2 school records, 15 top 10 finishes and a 3rd place overall team finish. Molly Thomas started the meet off by crushing the previous 2 mile school record with a time of 11:55.17, placing 4th in the event. Summer Mellow had an incredible day, placing 3rd in the 55m dash, also breaking the school record with a time 7.29 seconds. She was far from done, as she also placed 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 17' 1.75". She then teamed up with Nicole Walsh, Jillian McTamney and Kenslee O'Donnell to place 3rd in the 4x200 relay with a PA #2 time of 1:47.85. The 4x800 Relay of Molly and Kate Thomas, along with Julianna Trigone and Marlie Klein placed 4th in their event with a PA #3 time of 9:50.28. Kate Thomas placed 4th in the Varsity 600m with a time of 1:39.76.

 

There with also individual medalists in the freshman races with bode well for the program in future years. Bhavi Patel won the 55m hurdles in a time of 10.25 seconds. Marlie Klein won the 600m with a time of 1:46.19, while Sadie Fitch finished 3rd in the same race with a time of 1:49.37. Gabi Dwyer also took home a medal, placing 6th in the 300m with a time of 45.88 seconds. 

 

The girls will head back to Lehigh for a meet on Wednesday night.

Girls Track and Field opens the season with SEVEN Top 10 finishes in first meet

Opening up the season at Alvernia University with over 70 schools from throughout the Delaware Valley, the Lady Warriors showed that they will be a force in the PAC this Spring. Senior Summer Mellow led the way, placing 3rd in the Long Jump and anchoring the 4x200 relay to a 3rd place finish. Kenslee O'Donnell, Nicole Walsh and Gabi Dwyer joined Mellow on the relay. Both the Long Jump and the 4x200 Relay qualified for the post-season Meet of Champions with their performance.

The Distance Medley Relay of Kate Thomas, Jillian McTamney, Juliana Trigone and Molly Thomas also had a strong showing, placing 5th in the event. Taking individual 6th place finishes were Sydney Young in the Pole Vault and Carmela Maro in the Triple Jump. Rounding out the top 10 finishes for the meet were Kate Thomas in the open 800M (8th) and Kenslee O'Donnell in the open 400M (9th). The seven top 10 finishes were more than any other school in the meet.

The girls will continue their season next Friday at Lehigh University and Sunday in New York.
