The past Friday and Saturday the Warrior wrestling team competed in the grueling two-day, 24-team Pottstown Invitational. When the dust settled late Saturday evening the Warriors ended up with an impressive third place finish.

Leading the way was Matty Shumaker who dominated the 160 pound weight class.  Shumaker recorded three falls and a 15-0 tech fall en route to his championship.  Joining Shumaker on the victory stand was teammate Ryan Hayes who won the 133 pound title with a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory.

Sophomore Gabe Franks placed second at 285 pounds.  Franks pulled off the upset of the tournament when he used arm spin throw to pin top seeded and state ranked Andrew Brennan of LaSalle College in the quarterfinal round.

Dylan Pachik had a good showing finishing fifth at 215 pounds.  In the semifinals Pachik dropped a tough, hard fought match to state ranked Bandon Stiehler of Pocono Mountain West in overtime. Freshman Brayden Giovinco had a strong debut in a Methacton singlet going 4-2 on the way to a fifth place finish.

Gavin Rose reached the semifinals of the 172 pound weight class before finishing in sixth place.

Freshman Jack Hayes went 5-2 over two days on his way to a seventh-place finish at 145 pounds, while teammate Shane McQuaid rounded the Methacton place winners by garnering an eighth place finish at 139 pounds.

Other Methacton wrestlers who registered wins but did not place were Anthony Cancro (2-2) Chase Kerwood (1-2) and Bobby Goliash (1-2).

The tournament also had a junior varsity event which saw Warrior wrestlers Augie Reith, Jackson Power, Joe Civitello, Srikar Kodiganti, George Dyer and Kevin Krupeiski take first place in their respective brackets

The Warrior matmen are off until Wednesday, December 13th when they host rival Wissahickon.  The junior varsity starts at 6:30 pm with the varsity to follow at approximately 7:30 pm.
