Attack Leads Methacton in Opening Game Victory

The Warriors entered their 2013 campaign with a road trip to the Knights of West Chester Rustin High School.  One a bright and cold day the Warriors were able to open up to a 6-1 halftime lead an continued the pressure in the second half to notch their first win of the season.  The Warriors were lead by their Attack unit who posted 8 points (7 Goals, 1 Assist).

Michael Del Vecchio (Soph.) opened the scoring with the first of his two goals on the day with a shot to the low corner off of a feed from senior midfielder Kevin Markle.  Markle stretched the lead to 2-0 on an individual effort.  Dodging from up top the senior middie took a shot that deflected off a defender's stick and into the top left of the goal.

The hosts would get a goal back a few minutes later on an individual effort from their midfield to close the first quarter scoring with the visiting Warriors holding a 2-1 advantage.

Methacton started the second quarter down a man for two minutes (non-releasable) due to an unnecessary roughness penalty but the defense was able to burn the whole penalty.  Del Vecchio scored his second of the day off a blown clear by the Knight's defense.   Freshmen Aidan Denecke assisted a Ben Schimpf tally then followed with an individual effort while Dom Germano scored in transition to make the halftime score 6-1 in favor of the visiting Warriors.

West Chester Rustin opened the scoring in the second half but the Warriors continued their dominance in all categories.  Coach Ryan said of his team "I thought we played well today considering it was our first real game of the year.  I was happy with the effort plays and thought we rode well and created a lot of unsettled opportunities for ourselves.  This is a good start and allows us to look at the areas we need to improve before we see a tough Great Valley team on Monday."
