Warriors Top Bears in PAC-10 Action

Methacton entered today's contest at 1-0 in the PAC-10 having dispatched of Pottsgrove yesterday.  The Bears visited the Warriors still reeling from a 17-6 defeat at the hands of PAC-10 front-runner Spring-Ford.  Today's game presented an important hurdle for both teams in hopes of clinching one of the PAC-10 final four spots.

Methacton opened the scoring as Michael Del Vecchio found the net for his fifth goal of the year.  Ben Schimpf extended the lead to two on an unsettled play where he found the bottom left corner of the goal on an unassisted tally.  Boyertown answered back with just :48 left in the first quarter on a goal from Ben Manning.

The second quarter opened with Del Vecchio scoring his second of the day on an assist from Kevin Markle but the guests would not fade answering with two straight goals to knot the game at 3-3.  Chris Lees scored on an extra man opportunity assisted by Mike Palladino who then added his own goal with a helper from his brother Alec Palladino.  However, the Warriors would break the tie and take a 5-3 lead as Freshman Aidan Denecke added two unassisted goals to close out the first half scoring.

The second half saw more of the same with Methacton outscoring the visitors 3-1 in the third quarter and winning the fourth quarter with a 3-2 goal advantage.  Keith White scored two while adding an assist for Denecke's third of the game.  Del Vecchio completed the hat trick on a beautiful assist from Ben Schimpf and Matt McClay.

Coach Ryan noted "While our offense was productive today our defense really shined.  After some early game jitters they settled in and did a great job of forcing Boyertown into bad takes.  Jake Blitzer played well in goal and our clearing game and man down defense kept Boyertown off the board despite being in the box a lot.  Additionally, Owen Sullivan was great at the faceoff X for us today and that really helped us salt the game away in the second half. "

Sullivan led the Warriors with five ground balls.  Kevin Markle and Andrew DeSana also found five GB's.  On the day, Methacton won the vital ground ball stat 42-24.  Jake Blitzer finished the day giving up 6 goals while making 13 saves.

The Warriors have a day off before heading to Widener University to face off against leage foe Perk Valley in the Headstrong Rivalry Games.  This presents another important league match-up with potential Final Four implications.
