Warriors Comeback Falls Short

Methacton entered last nights contest at Coach McNelly Stadium reeling from a 9-3 OOC loss to Lower Merion at home.  Looking to rebound against league foe Spring-Ford, the Warriors came out firing and created a number of opportunities in the first half.  In what was a low scoring first half, the visitors opened the scoring and were able to push to a 3-0 lead.  Missed opportunities and dropped passes plagued the visiting Warriors while Spring-Ford was able to capitalize on those errors.

Del Vecchio got the visitors on the board in the second quarter with a goal out of unsettled play that he was able to bounce to the back pipe past the Spring-Ford goalie.  Methacton goalie Jake Blitzer drew a penalty in the waning minutes of the first half, but the defense, in front of back up David Michael, held strong and regained possession with 6.4 seconds left.  Senior Midfielder Luke Herber was able to run out the clock in the first half and maintain possession for the Warriors dues to the penalty still being served.

As has been the case all year, Methacton came out of the half strong.  They were able to burn the rest of the Jake Blitzer slashing penalty and carried the momentum to cut the lead to 1 goal on a Keith White tally.  The game would see its first tie when Keith White took a Kevin Markle pass and buried in low past the Spring-Ford goalie to knot the game at 3 goals a piece.  However, the host Rams were able to regain the lead behind the efforts of Senior (and returning PAC-10 Offensive POY) Paul Major.  The guests would continue to fight as Michael Del Vecchio made the most of an Aidan Denecke feed during an extra man opportunity.  The Sophomore Attackman dropped his stick low and drilled the top right corner of the goal to tie the game at 4 goals each.

In the fourth the hosts were able to strike first on some unsettled play.  However, the Warriors would get another extra man opportunity and they would tie the game at 5 on a Keith White shot into the upper 90.  From there it would be all Spring-Ford as they would outscore Methacton 5-1 in the fourth quarter to extend the final difference to 9-5.  Coach Ryan noted "I was really proud of our guys tonight.  Andrew DeSana did an excellent job against [Paul] Major and really held him in check.  They're a really talented team and I though we fought them hard for four quarters.  In the end, their depth and execution won out but I'm proud of our guys and excited to see what we can do moving forward."

The schedule doesn't let up for Methacton as they finish up this week by hosting OJR on Friday and then Emmaus on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
