Warriors Return to Winning Ways

In a budding rivalry game between Methacton and Boyertown, the Warriors were able to add to a strong start to break out to a 6-2 halftime lead en route to a 13-5 victory today at Boyertown High School.

Methacton opened the scoring on the day as Cody Ridgway drove from behind the goal and found Sean Aronow on the wing who finished his first of the day.  That combination proved to be potent as they scored just minutes later on an almost identical play and the visitors closed the first quarter with a two goal lead.

In the second quarter, Senior Clay Sobocinski found Junior Colin Pauline on the crease for his first goal of the day and the scored his own a minute later on a Ridgway feed.  The host Bears netted the next two to cut the lead in half, but Methacton responded quickly with unassisted tally's from Senior Eli Miller and Ridgway to take a 6-2 lead into the half.

Methacton continued to hold the momentum as Scott Markle scooped the ground ball off the opening face-off and pushed the ball upfield.  Sensing a hole in the Bears defense he stepped into the box and when he didn't draw a defenseman, he fired a high shot finding the back of the net for his first goal of the year.  Methacton scored the next four goals with Ridgway adding a pair, Sobocinski, Miller adding one each.  Boyertown's Tyler Fuhrman scored his first of the day but Methacton answered right back with a goal by Senior Sam McAdoo to end the third quarter with a 12-3 margin.

The Warriors started the fourth quarter scoring as Sobocinski found Junior Brian Vawter on an extra man opportunity to stretch the lead to 10.  Boyertown closed the scoring for the day with two goals to bring the final tally to 13-5.

Coach Ryan noted "I thought our defense played exceptionally today.  [Scott] Markle was all over the field creating turnovers and pushing transition.  [Anthony] DeSana played well, sliding to the ball strong and putting the ball on the ground.  It seemed like [Ryan] Murphy was seeing the ball well and as a team we were communicating and sliding really well.  Our goal is to lock down the center of the field and I thought we did really well there."

Regarding the offense he added "I'm pleased with how we're progressing.  I'd certainly like to see more of our goals being assisted but I thought we shot well particularly in the second half and found the opportunities to get the ball inside pretty well.  I continue to be happy with how well we ride and the entire team has shown a committment to winning the ground ball game and that speaks volumes for the types of kids we have."

Senior goalie Ryan Murphy finished with 18 saves on the day, a season high.  Senior midfielder Eli Miller continued his strong face-off work going 11-6 on the day.  Coach Ryan credited the strong work at the x not only to Miller but to strong ground ball work from long stick midfielders Gabe Ferraro and Zach Roumaya.

With the win Methacton improves to 3-2 overall (2-1 PAC-10) and continue their PAC-10 schedule as they open their home slate with Perkiomen Valley on wednesday.
