Stevenson and Delvecchio Pace Warriors in Win

Both the field and the play were sloppy at times as the Warriors played their home opener against PJP on Tuesday afternoon.  Methacton won the opening faceoff and dominated offensive possession but were unable to find the net until Connor Stevenson scored on an individual effort with just over five minutes left in the first period.  The visiting Panthers, however, were able to knot the score at 1 apiece as Drew Glass found the back of the net following some unsettled play with just six seconds left in the first quarter.

The second quarter began with a three minute non releaseable stick penalty for the visiting Panthers, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize only finding the net once as Nick Mazza scored on an unassisted effort.  Unfortunately, that would be the last goal of the quarter for the hosts as PJP tied the game up seven minutes later with some nice ball movement as Jake Bev finished a feed from Jake Kory.

The second half began with Owen Sullivan winning the faceoff and gaining possession for the hosts.  Sullivan had another dominant day at the faceoff x winning 10 of 14 attemps for a 71% clip.  Keith White scored his first of the day taking advantage of a PJP defender losing his footing on the loose turf and dipped inside to give the Warriors the lead.  Stevenson scored his second of the day on a feed from Owen Sullivan just 9 seconds later as the senior faceoff specialist created instant offense by winning the faceoff and pushing a fast break.

PJP however, did not fold scoring the next two goals to cut the margin to one with just over four minutes left in the third quarter.  That would be as close as they got however as Ryan O'Toole finished his first of the day on a Keith White feed to finish the quarter with the hosts holding a two goal lead.

The Warriors would dominate the fourth quarter creating fast break opportunities all over the field by both great defense and a tenacious ride.  O'Toole opened the fourth quarter scoring by putting away a nice feed from Connor Stevenson.  Dom Germano found the net on an individual effort from behind the goal to extend the lead to three .  This was the start of a scoring flurry where the hosts were able to find the net three times over the next 43 seconds.  Keith White found Michael Delvecchio twice in that timeframe as Delvecchio put together a three goal day.  Stevenson closed the scoring for the hosts with just under three minutes to play.  Jake Blitzer earned the win in goal while the defense, anchored by Seniors Andrew DeSana and Hunter Mycek held the opposition to four total goals on the day.  The Warriors return to action as they visit Spring-Ford Wednesday evening in a key PAC-10 matchup at 7:00 at Coach McNelly Stadium.
