Warriors fall in 2015 Season Opener at Great Valley

Methacton traveled to Great Valley to open the 2015 season against a tough District 1 opponent.  The Warriors fell short dropping their first game of the year 5-2 against the host Patriots.  

Great Valley opened the scoring in the first quarter finding the net twice to gain the lead.  The second quarter, however, was controlled by the visitors as they maintained possession throughout.  Junior Aidan Denecke got Methacton on the board on a goal assisted by Junior Connor Stevenson.  Denecke then drew the Warriors even on an unassisted tally as he beat his defender on the perimeter and found the back of the net.  The host Patriots would notch the final goal of the half scoring late in the second quarter to take a 3-2 lead into the halftime lead.  

The second quarter tally would prove to be the game winner as the Warriors were held scoreless for the final two quarters.  Despite back and forth play and a number of strong offensive opportunities the visitors were unable to find the back of the net.  Great Valley extended the lead scoring once in each of the final two quarters to create the 5-2 final deficit.  With the win Great Valley goes to 1-0 while the Warriors fall to 0-1.  

Senior Jake Blitzer made 12 saves in the losing effort while Senior defenseman Michael Brasher led the Warriors with ground balls (4).  The Patriots held the advantage at the faceoff x winning 6 of 9.  

Methacton returns to action Tuesday as they play a home game against OJR (game location changed to OJR) to open their PAC-10 schedule.
