Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Spring-Ford High School
3.0 years ago | Dave Stevenson
Warriors Lose: 2 - 2
The Boys' Varsity game versus PAC rival Spring-Ford ended in a 2-2 tie despite 20 extra minutes of play in overtime. The Warriors fell behind early in the first half when a Spring-Ford player scored after the ball ping-ponged around the 18 yard box and fell to his feet. Later in the first half the Warriors tied up with game via a free kick by Zach Stevenson, who passed it to Otto Hull who then assisted Matt Weber in the first goal of his Varsity career.  Scoring in the second half consisted of a similar manner. Spring-Ford capitalized on an opportunity and took the lead 2-1. Yet the Warriors kept battling and their persistence paid off in a low shot to the corner of the net by Steven Penjuke with the assist by Zach Stevenson. With the end of regulation time, the two teams lined up for 'golden goal' overtime. Both teams had good opportunities to claim victory, but the game remained tied by the end of the twenty minute session.  Steve Remish saved a penalty kick and collected four other saves while Charlie Bordonaro contributed two saves in the first half. The defensive unit of Ryan Baldwin, Graham Halfpenny, Tony Paone, Quinton Stemler, and Jake Smeykal kept pace with a very adept Spring-Ford team. Midfielders Chris Rowland, Brayden Ahlum, John Schmitt, Eddie Carbajal, and Jacob Gorcyzca battled for possession and strikers Zach Willen and Matt Schwertfeger made the most of their playing time.

Warriors Win: 2 - 1
The Warriors showed their 'grit' in a comeback overtime win against Upper Perkiomen High School. Down a goal after a penalty kick put UP ahead, the team stayed poised and had the better of possession to end the first half. This continued into the second half until Brayden Ahlum made a quick overlap pass to Quinton Stemler who lofted the ball over the UP's keeper to notch the game at one a piece. With the end of regulation play, the Warriors dug in to stymie UP in the first ten minute overtime. Then, shortly into the second overtime, the Warriors stuck again with another run by Quinton Stemler who ripped a shot past the UP keeper for the game winning goal. Commendations go to the defensive unit of Graham Halfpenny, Joseph Mun, Ryan Baldwin, Jake Smeykal and Denny Bachman.  Zach Stevenson, Chris Rowland, Matt Weber, Tony Paone and John Schmitt provided control over the midfield, while strikers Steve Penjuke, Otto Hull, Zach Willen, and Matt Schwertfeger challenged to UP defense continuously. Congratulations to the squad on their gritty performance.

Warriors Lose: 1 - 2
The Boys' team fell to Perkiomen Valley in a closely contested PAC game. The Vikings struck first on a corner kick which stood through halftime. The Vikings then struck again on another corner kick to take a 2-0 lead midway through the second half. However, the Warriors rallied despite the two goal deficit, but an offsides call overruled an apparent goal by Otto Hull. Still pressing the Vikings in their own end, Joseph Mun sent a long ball into the box where Quinton Stemler headed the ball past the hapless PV goalie. The clock cut the rally short though, leaving the Warriors short a goal in the 1-2 loss.

Warriors Win: 1 - 0
The Boys' Varsity began their shortened 2020 season with a hard fought victory over OJR, 1-0.  John Schmitt notched the lone goal in the first six minutes on a pass from Zach Willen. John beat two defenders and found the back of the net on a herculean effort. The defensive unit of Graham Halfpenny, Joseph Mun, Ryan Baldwin, and Quinton Stemler stymied the OJR attack, not allowing a single shot on goalkeepers Charlie Bordonaro and Steve Remish. Midfielders Chris Rowland, Zach Stevenson, and Brayden Ahlum logged miles in creating scoring chances and contesting the midfield. All players, including Matt Weber, Denny Bachman, Jake Smeykal, Eddie Carbajal, Otto Hull, Tony Paone, Jacob Gorcyzca, Steve Penjuke, and Matt Schwertfeger assisted in the win.  Congratulations to the team and best of luck in the next PAC battle versus PV.
