For the second straight season and third time in five years the Methacton High School Lady Warriors Basketball team is headed to the PAC-10 Championship game. Trailing by six points early in the third quarter, the Lady Warriors regained their footing and went on to post a 58-49 victory to set up a rematch of last year’s championship game with powerhouse Spring-Ford Wednesday night (7 p.m.) in Royersford.
PJP, which led 14-11 after one quarter and 31-27 at the break, was lighting up the gym with a bevy of three-pointers. But after taking a 37-31 advantage at the 6:14 mark of the third quarter, the tide turned.
The Lady Warriors ended the third quarter on a 13-5 run to go up 44-42, then seized control with a 9-3 surge in the early part of the fourth quarter. PJP would get as close as 53-49 with 2:07 left, but the Lady Warriors sealed the deal when Kelly Glatthorn (12 points, 2-for-2 from beyond the arc) and Kara Steinke both nailed a pair of free throws down the stretch. Senior star Kelsey Watson, dropped in 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Junior center Jenna Carroll, posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The unflappable Warriors now get the chance to settle an old score with Spring-Ford, which has already handed them a pair of 21-point setbacks during the regular season on the heels of a 62-33 loss in last season’s championship clash. The Lady Warriors record now stands at 20-4 on the season.
