Girls Basketball brings home Wildwood Championship!

The Lady Warriors traveled to Wildwood, NJ on Thursday and Friday to take part in the Wildwood Basketball Classic at the Wildwood Convention Center.  This is the largest coed basketball tournament in the country featuring over 80 boys and girls teams from PA, NJ, DE, NY and MD.

The Lady Warriors played in the Ocean Cup bracket with three teams from NJ: Absegami, Central Regional and Our Lady of Mercy Academy.  In the opening game on Thursday night, the Lady Warriors took on a 2-0 Central Regional team and came away with a 48-24 victory to advance to Friday afternoon's Championship game.  On Friday, the Lady Warriors took on 4-0 Our Lady of Mercy Academy which featured 6'5" Mariya Rubin of the Ukraine who is a member of the European U18 National team.  The Lady Warriors came away with a hard fought 35-33 victory and the bracket title when Junior Kelsey Watson sank two free throws with 3 seconds remaining.  The team was acknowledged after the game with individual trophies as well as a team trophy to display.  The championship was the third in six trips to Wildwood for the Girls Basketball program.

Game summary

The Warriors continued their torrid play, winning their fourth game in five starts to advance to the final of the Ocean Cup Bracket at the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood, N.J.

Methacton (5-4, 3-1) started strong, opening up a 23-11 halftime lead behind Sophomore Jenna Carroll, who had 8 of her game-high 14 points during the first two periods. Sophomore Kelly Glatthorn (6 steals) and Junior Kelsey Watson (9 rebounds) also hit double figures for the Warriors with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Contributing 5 assists was Sophomore Kara Steinke.

Game summary

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 9-2 lead.  They then suffered through a 10 minute scoring drought to fall behind by 4 at the half.  They fell behind by 7 in the third quarter before straing their comeback.  Junior Kelsey Watson drained a pair of free throws with 3 seconds remaining to lift Methacton to a 35-33 girls basketball win over Our Lady of Mercy Academy (N.J.) Friday in the final of the Ocean Cup Bracket at the Boardwalk Classic at Wildwood's Convention Center.

The surging Warriors (6-4, 3-1), who have won five of their last six games, were led by Sophomore Kelly Glatthorn’s game-high 13 points, Watson’s 11 rebounds and Sophomore Jenna Carroll’s 8 points.
