PENN WOOD (DISTRICT ONE AAAA PLAYOFFS PLAYBACK): 51
Jenna Carroll posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Warriors kept their season alive with a 53-51 overtime victory over Penn Wood in the District 1-AAAA consolation bracket Saturday afternoon.
The 12th-seeded Lady Warriors move on to another elimination game Wednesday night (7 p.m.) at home against 17th seeded Souderton, which advanced with a 57-52 upset of 9th seeded Ridley Saturday. The winner of the Souderton-Methacton contest assures itself a state playoff berth.
Penn Wood missed a layup as time expired in regulation, and the lady Warriors took advantage of the second life by outscoring the Patriots 12-10 in the extra session for the victory. Tej Ellis was the spark in the 4th quarter and OT as she scored 12 of her 16 points in those frames and she also had 9 boards in the game.
The Lady Warriors (19-8) also got 9 points from senior point guard Kara Steinke. Carroll knocked down a pair of threes and extended her career point total to 987 – 13 short of the 1,000 milestone - with her 16-point showing. Her 11 rebounds also gave her 300 for the season which set a new single season school record originally held by Renee Womack at 299 during the 2007-08 season. Carroll's 6 blocks in the game also extended her single season block record to 122.
