Ryan DeOrio hit for 14 points and Sydney Thompson added 13 points and 6 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Warriors dropped a narrow 42-41 decision to Newark Academy (NJ) in the opening round of the Wildwood Boardwalk Classic Sunday night.
Virginia recruit Jocelyn Willoughby, rated in the top 50 high school players by ESPN, poured in 22 points to lead the Minutemen (3-0). The Lady Warriors (6-5) face Middle Township (NJ) in the consolation round of the Ray Martin Memorial Bracket Monday night at 7:15 p.m.
Thompson nailed a trio of triples while DeOrio and Jenna Cooper had two treys apiece for the Lady Warriors, which knocked down 8 shots from beyond the arc and got 8 rebounds from Jackie Cerchio.
