Senior Nicole Timko cashed a game-high 18 points with 5 assists, Junior Cassidy Kropp contributed 8 points and 7 assists and Junior Mairi Smith ruled the paint with 6 rebounds as the Warriors extended their winning streak to 12 with the nonleague romp at the 15th Annual Hoops for Hope Classic at Delco Christian Sunday 51-28 over Villa Maria Academy (8-6).
Also for the Lady Warriors (14-1 overall), playing for a third straight game without injured senior starter Tori Bockrath (8.3 ppg), Senior Kayla Kaufman, Freshman Abby Arnold and Junior Reana Torres combined for 21 points to help pick up the slack at the offensive end.
After a sluggish start that produced a narrow 15-13 edge at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Warriors took charge, going up 27-20 at the break and tightening the defensive pressure in the second half, holding the Hurricanes to just 4 points in each quarter.
Timko, who continued her quest to take over the top spot on the Lady Warriors career scoring list, was selected as the Under Armour game MVP for the winners. Timko now has 1501 career points, 181 behind all-time leader Renee Womack (2004-2008, 1682 points).
It was a great day for a great cause with games taking place at Delco Christian School and Cabrini University. All proceeds went to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to fight Pediatric Cancer.
