Lady Warriors headed to State playoffs behind Smith and Timko

(3) Methacton 45, (6) West Chester Rustin 43 – Mairi Smith and Nicole Timko recorded double-doubles and the Warriors held off a late charge by the Golden Knights to lock up the sixth PIAA berth in program history with the narrow victory Saturday in the playback phase of the District 1-6A Tournament.
Smith finished with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds while Timko stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, 10 boards, 6 assists and 4 steals for Methacton, which held a 36-26 lead entering the fourth quarter – enough to withstand Rustin’s late 17-9 run.
Timko now has 1673 career points, a mere 9 points behind all-time Methacton girls scoring leader Renee Womack, who cashed 1682 points between 2004-2008.
Up next in the 9-12 playbacks for Methacton, which also got 8 points and a pair of treys from Tori Bockrath, is a home date Wednesday (7 pm) with (10) Neshaminy. Neshaminy moved on with a 44-30 victory over familiar SOL foe (15) Central Bucks South.
Riley Stackhouse (13 points) and Laine McGurk (11) hit double figures for Rustin, which completes its season at 20-6.
