Timko hits 1000 as Lady Warriors win 2OT thriller over Pope John Paul II
3.0 years ago | Craig Kaminski
Warriors Win: 39 - 37
Junior Nicole Timko poured in a game-high 18 points and hit the 1,000 career point plateau to propel the streaking Lady Warriors to the double-overtime victory in PAC crossover action 39-37 over Pope John Paull II. Needing just 10 points to reach the plateau, Timko buried a three-pointer from the top of the key at the start of the fourth quarter to hit 1,001 and set off the celebration among her teammates. It was one of four treys on the night for Timko, who became the eighth player in Lady Warrior program history and just the second junior to hit the esteemed mark. Things almost didn't turn out so well for Timko and her teammates in their quest for a sixth straight win. Leading by five down the stretch, the Lady Warriors yielded a 7-0 run by PJP and needed Senio Alli Hazlett’s clutch bucket off an inbounds play with 0.8 seconds left to force overtime.  After a 2-2 standoff in the first extra session with Timko and PJP's Amelia Kennedy trading field goals, the Lady Warriors opened the second OT frame with a clutch three from Sophomore Cassidy Kropp and held on from there as Kropp added a pair of free throws to answer PJP's Kayla Ciuba's 3-ball. In addition to Timko, Hazlett finished with 5 points and 9 rebounds and Sophomore Mairi Smith chipped in with 9 points.
