Athlete: Nicole Timko

School: Methacton

Sport: Basketball

The week that was: Timko, a 5-foot-9 junior shooting guard for the Warriors, reached the 1,000-point plateau in a 39-37 double overtime victory over Pope John Paul II Tuesday night.

Timko became the eighth player in Methacton program history to hit the coveted 1,000 mark when she buried a three-pointer from the top of the key early in the fourth quarter on her way to a game-high 18 points.

It was appropriate that the three-ball would be her gateway to the record books. The school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals with 174, Nicole has led the area in treys since her debut as a freshman. She finished that season with a PAC-best 64 and followed that up with a league-high 90 last year as a sophomore (2019-20).

This season in her quest for a three-peat she has 20 three- balls in 10 games, which is third behind Spring-Ford’s Emily Tiffan (27, 13 games) and Owen J. Roberts Avery White (21).

“Nicole hitting the 1,000-point milestone is an awesome accomplishment,” said Methacton veteran coach Craig Kaminski. “But to do it in her junior year in a shortened season is truly amazing. Everyone is extremely proud of her.”

A legitimate source of pride, Timko is just the second player in Methacton program history to reach the prestigious landmark as a junior. The other is the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer Renee Womack (2008 graduate, 1,682 points).

As of Monday, Feb. 15, Nicole has 1,028 career points, trailing Womack, Lauren Ruhl (1,316 points, 2010), Meaghan Galie (1,313; 1997), Kelly Glatthorn (1,122; 2014), Sydney Tornetta (1,091; 2020) and Ryan DeOrio (1,071; 2017) and just ahead of Jenna Carroll (1,025, 2014).

“Nicole is a huge asset to the Methacton girls basketball program,” said Kaminski. “She is a true competitor, a student of the game and most importantly an around great kid who excels on and off the court.”

Timko has been a model of consistency, averaging 12.2 points per game in 2018-19, 16.1 last season and 16.4 this year, following up her grand achievement by scoring 20 points as the Warriors handled Phoenixville 56-36 last Wednesday for their seventh straight victory to improve to 8-2.

“Nicole has a good work ethic, brings tremendous knowledge of basketball, always does what’s best for the program and is constantly working to make her teammates better,” Kaminski said. “Nicole is on her way to being a great player with a bright future ahead of her.”
